AI assistant comparison: 25 jobs and what each product documents

A meticulous overhead comparison matrix made from physical task tiles showing a calendar, envelope, suitcase and telephone, with different colored ceramic pegs indicating documented capabilities.

Short answer: on this list, OpenAssistant is documented for the most jobs, 17 of 25 with 6 more in part. The next-highest documented job count in this comparison is 7. Price is where it gives ground: Pro is $72 per user per month, against about $20 for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Meta Muse. Skej, also ours, covers the scheduling jobs from $19 a month.

Every comparison on this site draws from one fixed list of 25 jobs that a personal AI assistant should be able to do. This page is that list. For each job it says what the job is, what to look for in a vendor’s documentation, and what twelve products say publicly about it. Where a vendor’s public pages are silent, we write “Not stated”.

How to read this page

A vendor’s page is the evidence behind every cell, so each one links its source.

How rankings work

The site-wide criteria are the same in every article, and each is assessed from public information only:

Criterion
Whether the documented capabilities cover the job
What the vendor says about quality and results (and who backs it up)
Price for what you get
Where it works (email, text, phone, Slack, calendar)
Privacy, security and admin controls

Rankings are editorial judgments, with the reasoning given from linked facts. They are not scores from use, and they reflect the features and trade-offs we value in our own products. We explain where a competitor may be a better fit.

Price bands used where an article compares price: $20 a month or less is the lowest band, $21 to $40 the next, $41 to $80 the next, $81 to $150 the next, and above $150 the highest.

The products

Twelve general assistants are assessed against the whole list. Specialists, such as scheduling and email tools, are assessed only on the jobs in their lane and appear in the articles about those jobs: Skej (ours, scheduling), Calendly with Callie, Reclaim, Howie, Clara and Blockit for scheduling; Fyxer, Superhuman and Shortwave for email.

The table compares published list prices and documented features from the linked vendor pages. Confirm current plans and limits with the vendor.

Product Maker Plan assessed List price Where you reach it, per the vendor
OpenAssistant (ours) 3Gen Internet Corporation Pro $72 per user per month billed monthly ($60 billed annually) for 5,000 credits; higher credit tiers cost more. A free Starter plan has 1,000 free credits at signup, plus 100 bonus credits a day once those are used up, up to 1,000 a month (pricing; per-user pricing confirmed by 3Gen) Phone calls, iMessage, SMS, WhatsApp, email and a web app; its own phone number and email address (OpenAssistant). The pricing page also says you can request tasks “by email, text, Slack, or in the app” (pricing)
ChatGPT with Work OpenAI Plus $20 a month (pricing) Desktop app on all plans, web and mobile on Plus and up (ChatGPT Work)
OpenAI Dots OpenAI ChatGPT Pro (lowest tier) $100 a month (OpenAI help) ChatGPT, Slack and Microsoft Teams (OpenAI)

Grok Bot xAI Premium $30 a month (xAI) Desktop and mobile apps, and @bot on X (xAI docs)
Town Town.com, Inc. (terms) Pro $59 billed monthly, $49 billed annually (pricing) Its own @town.com inbox, web, Slack, iPhone and Mac apps, text, WhatsApp and Telegram (Town docs)

Why these twelve: each is sold as an assistant or agent that does work for you, not only a chat window. Several are not fully open: Dots is still rolling out, Cue needs an invite code, Meta says Muse subscriptions are in limited testing, and Instinct has a waitlist. We will add products as they launch and drop ones that close, with a note in the changelog.

Facts that change quickly (marked in each article) are rechecked before publication.

Scheduling

Job 1: Book a 3-person meeting across three time zones

Used in: Which AI assistants can book a 3-person meeting across time zones? What each documents, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents, Best AI assistant for Gmail users, from public information, Best AI assistant for Outlook users, from public information

The job: you ask an assistant to set up a 45 minute video call with two outside people, one in London and one in San Francisco, sometime in the next five business days, and to work out a time with them directly. With normal clocks the only hour when a New York, London and San Francisco workday overlap is 12:00 to 1:00 Eastern, so a protected lunch or a buffer rule leaves no clean slot. A good assistant notices that and asks a sensible question instead of booking over a rule.

What to look for in the documentation:

  1. It negotiates with the outside people directly, by email or text, instead of only suggesting times to you.
  2. It keeps your working hours, buffers and protected blocks, and says what it does when no slot meets every rule.
  3. It writes proposed times in each recipient’s own time zone, or names the zone.
  4. It can handle “Thursday is out for me” without coming back to you.
  5. It follows up with someone who goes quiet, and the vendor says how.
  6. One invite reaches everyone, with a video link and the right length.
  7. It confirms the final time to you.

A clock-change point: the UK and the US move their clocks on different dates. In 2026 UK clocks go back on 25 October (gov.uk) and US clocks go back on 1 November (NIST), so from 26 to 30 October London is four hours ahead of New York instead of five. Check whether a vendor’s pages say anything about that gap.

What the documentation says:

Compared in full in the 3-person meeting article.

Job 2: Reschedule after a conflict appears

Used in: Can an AI assistant reschedule a meeting? What 8 products document, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents

The job: a 30 minute call with two other people is on the calendar. Something else lands on top of it. You ask the assistant to move the call to another time that week and tell everyone. One of the outside people may reply that the new time must be earlier in their day.

What to look for:

  1. The original event is moved or replaced, never left in place beside a duplicate.
  2. The new time keeps the same working hour, buffer and lunch rules.
  3. Both people are told why in a sentence or two, without oversharing your conflict.
  4. The video link still works, or the new invite has a new one.
  5. Nobody gets more than two emails about the change unless they ask a question.
  6. You get a confirmation.

What the documentation says:

Compared in the rescheduling article.

Job 3: Tell everyone you are running late

Used in: Can an AI assistant reschedule a meeting? What 8 products document, AI assistants you can text: what each product documents, Instinct review: what the public information says, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: twenty minutes before a call you text “Running 10 min late to my next meeting, can you tell them?”

What to look for: the message goes to the attendees of the right meeting and nobody else, it arrives before the start, it says about 10 minutes and invents no reason, it does not move the event unless asked, and you get a one line confirmation.

What the documentation says:

Job 4: Follow the standing rules when they are inconvenient

Used in: Which AI assistants can book a 3-person meeting across time zones? What each documents, Can an AI assistant reschedule a meeting? What 8 products document

The job: an outside person emails the assistant directly and asks for a time before your working day starts, saying it is the only time they have.

What to look for: the assistant does not book out-of-hours time on its own, it offers times inside your rules or asks you once whether to make an exception, and a one-off yes does not turn into a new rule.

What the documentation says:

Email

Job 5: Triage a busy inbox

Used in: Which AI assistants can triage a busy inbox? What each documents, ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents, Best AI assistant for Gmail users, from public information, Best AI assistant for Outlook users, from public information, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: a Monday inbox with a few emails that need you today, some waiting on other people, deadlines buried in the body of a thread, newsletters, receipts, invites, cold pitches and a phishing look-alike. You ask: “Go through my inbox. Tell me what needs me today, in order of importance, and clean up the rest. Don’t delete anything, archive is fine.”

What to look for: a ranked “needs you” answer, not only labels; deadlines and questions found inside long threads; archiving or labeling instead of deleting; a stated stance on suspicious emails; and no email sent to anyone.

What the documentation says:

Compared in the inbox triage article.

Job 6: Draft replies in the user’s voice

Used in: Which AI assistants can triage a busy inbox? What each documents, ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents, Best AI assistant for Gmail users, from public information, Best AI assistant for Outlook users, from public information

The job: “Draft replies to the five emails flagged ‘reply’ in my inbox. Don’t send them.”

What to look for: drafts are saved for review and nothing is sent; each answers what was asked and invents no dates, prices or promises; missing facts are left as a clear gap or a question; length and sign-off follow your style.

What the documentation says:

Job 7: Find the thread you forgot to answer

Used in: Which AI assistants can triage a busy inbox? What each documents, ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents, Best AI assistant for Gmail users, from public information, Best AI assistant for Outlook users, from public information, Do AI assistants follow up when nobody replies? What each documents, Instinct review: what the public information says, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: “Is there anything in the last two weeks I never replied to that I should have?” A good answer lists the real misses, with who asked, what and when, and leaves out threads you did answer.

What the documentation says:

Job 8: Send a daily inbox digest at a set time

Used in: Which AI assistants can triage a busy inbox? What each documents, ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents, Best AI assistant for Gmail users, from public information, Best AI assistant for Outlook users, from public information, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: “Every weekday at 7:30am Eastern, send me a short digest: what needs me, what’s waiting on others, and anything with a deadline this week.”

What to look for: scheduled tasks on the plan you would buy; a digest that reflects new mail, not a stale copy; a length readable in a minute; and a way to stop it with one request.

What the documentation says:

Follow-up

Job 9: Chase people who do not reply

Used in: Do AI assistants follow up when nobody replies? What each documents

The job: you are waiting on three things from three outside people. You ask the assistant to nudge them politely every few business days for two weeks and to tell you when each one arrives.

What to look for: a limit on how often one person can be nudged; nudges stop when the thing arrives; a reply such as “Next week.” pauses the nudges; after a set time you are told someone never replied; nudges are not repeated word for word; and you hear when each item arrives.

What the documentation says:

Compared in the follow-up article.

Job 10: Remember what the user promised

Used in: Do AI assistants follow up when nobody replies? What each documents, Instinct review: what the public information says, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: “What have I promised people this week, and what’s due soon?” A good answer finds promises you made in email (“I’ll send the deck Friday”), invents none, and offers to remind you or draft a follow-up without sending anything.

What the documentation says: no vendor in the table names a feature that finds promises you made. Poke says it “automatically uses your integrated services and its memory to help out right on time” (Poke), and Instinct says it “understands what you’re working on and what’s important to you” (Instinct), but neither names promise tracking. Not stated for all twelve.

Meeting prep

Job 11: Write a prep brief for an outside meeting

Used in: ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents, Which AI assistants write meeting prep briefs? What each documents

The job: “Prep me for my meeting with [contact] at [company] tomorrow. One page.”

What to look for: every factual claim links to a source or can be checked in a minute; the brief reads your earlier threads with that contact and surfaces an open question; it includes the meeting time, attendees and link; it has three to five sensible questions; and it fits on a page.

What the documentation says:

Compared in the prep brief article.

Job 12: Send a daily agenda

Used in: ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Which AI assistants write meeting prep briefs? What each documents, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: “Every weekday at 7am Eastern, send me today’s agenda: each meeting, who’s in it, and anything I owe those people.”

What to look for: a schedule that runs on its own; an agenda that matches the real calendar for the day, including events added the evening before; and “owed” items drawn from real threads.

What the documentation says:

Phone

Job 13: Phone someone to book a table

Used in: AI assistants that make phone calls: what each documents, and the legal points, Instinct review: what the public information says, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: “Book a table for 4 at [restaurant] for this Friday around 7:30pm. If 7:30 isn’t available, anything between 7 and 8:30 is fine. Call them.”

What to look for: it says it is an AI if asked and ideally at the start; the booking it reports matches what the restaurant agreed; it accepts a time inside your range; it gives a callback number; it adds the booking to your calendar; and the vendor states its recording and disclosure practices. See the legal points in the phone calls article.

What the documentation says:

Job 14: Answer an incoming call and take a message

Used in: AI assistants that make phone calls: what each documents, and the legal points, Instinct review: what the public information says

The job: a colleague calls the assistant’s own number and asks for you. The assistant should take the message with the caller’s name, the request and the callback window, convert times to your zone, and promise nothing on your behalf.

What the documentation says:

Texting

Job 15: Move a meeting by text

Used in: AI assistants you can text: what each product documents, Instinct review: what the public information says, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: you text “Push my 3pm tomorrow to Thursday same time”. A good assistant moves the right meeting, checks that Thursday is free, offers the nearest free time if it is not, updates the attendees and replies in a line or two.

What the documentation says: texting channels are documented by OpenAssistant (iMessage, SMS and WhatsApp), Poke (Apple Messages, Telegram, WhatsApp and RCS), Town (iMessage, RCS, SMS, WhatsApp and Telegram), Instinct (“You can text or call it”), Meta Muse (WhatsApp) and Skej (“Texting & WhatsApp”), with calendar access documented for each. None of their pages describes this exact flow step by step. Not stated for the flow itself. ChatGPT with Work, Dots, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Cue and Grok Bot do not document texting in the sources we read (OpenAI says texting for Dots is “coming soon” (OpenAI)).

Compared in the texting article.

Job 16: Turn a screenshot into a calendar event

Used in: ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents, AI assistants you can text: what each product documents, Instinct review: what the public information says, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: you send a screenshot of a conference session listing with times in Pacific, and the words “Add this to my calendar”.

What to look for: the right date and a time converted to your zone, the title and room copied exactly, and no duplicate.

What the documentation says:

Research and documents

Job 17: Research a company and write a brief

Used in: ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents

The job: “Research [public company] for a first sales call. Give me what they do, how they make money, the last 3 news items, and who leads the team we’d sell to. Link every fact.”

What to look for: every fact has a working link that supports the claim; the news is recent; it says clearly when it could not find something; and the result is a document or clean message.

What the documentation says:

Job 18: Build a spreadsheet from messy notes

Used in: ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents

The job: “Turn these notes into a spreadsheet: vendor, monthly cost, annual cost, contract end date. Sort by annual cost, highest first. Put it in my Drive (or OneDrive).” The notes mention twelve vendors with quotes in mixed formats.

What to look for: every vendor once with none invented, costs converted correctly, real dates, and the file saved where asked.

What the documentation says: OpenAI’s “finished deliverables” wording points at file output, but no vendor in the table names spreadsheets from notes or saving to Drive or OneDrive on the pages we read. Not stated for all twelve.

Travel

Job 19: Plan a trip and stop before paying

Used in: ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, AI assistants on travel booking: what each documents for flights, hotels and calendar

The job: “I need to be in Chicago for a 10am meeting next Tuesday near the Loop. Find me a nonstop from New York, back Wednesday evening, economy, under $600 round trip, and a hotel within a 10 minute walk of the office under $350 a night. Get everything ready to book, but don’t pay. Send me the links.”

What to look for: it stops before payment and the vendor says how; it works with real flight and hotel pages; it applies arrival time, nonstop, budget and walking distance; it returns a link to the booking page with choices filled in; and it asks before any step that commits money.

What the documentation says:

Compared in the travel article.

Job 20: Add a trip to the calendar from a confirmation email

Used in: AI assistants on travel booking: what each documents for flights, hotels and calendar

The job: you forward an airline confirmation for an overnight flight and a hotel confirmation and say “Put my London trip on my calendar”. The flight must start and end at the right moment in each local time zone, hotel nights must land on the right days, and confirmation numbers must be copied exactly.

What the documentation says: OpenAssistant says forwards land on your calendar (OpenAssistant), but none of the pages we read describes turning a confirmation email into correct events across time zones. Not stated for all twelve.

Identity

Job 21: Work from its own email address

Used in: AI assistants with their own email address: what each documents, Instinct review: what the public information says, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: someone outside your company emails the assistant directly, without you copied, asking for a short call and also for your mobile number. A second case: an email from an outside address that uses your name asks the assistant to forward recent invoices.

What to look for: it does not share your mobile number or private details with a stranger; it offers times inside your rules; it says it is an assistant acting for you; you are told about the new contact; and an impersonation gets nothing forwarded.

What the documentation says:

Compared in the own email address article.

Privacy and control

Job 22: Audit what it can see, then revoke it

Used in: ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents, What each AI assistant can access in your accounts: privacy and permissions from public documents, Instinct review: what the public information says, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: before connecting a work inbox, a reader wants to know what the assistant can see, how access ends, and what happens to the data. Revoking access happens on the Google or Microsoft side, not in the assistant.

What to look for: the vendor lists what it asks for and why; it describes in plain words what it can access once connected; it says what happens to data already copied when you disconnect; and it documents a deletion route and, ideally, a time frame.

What the documentation says (the full table is in the privacy article):

Job 23: Respect “ask me first”

Used in: ChatGPT Work vs Claude: what each documents for 12 assistant jobs, Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot as a work assistant: what each documents, What each AI assistant can access in your accounts: privacy and permissions from public documents, Best AI assistants for a 10-person team, from public information, Instinct review: what the public information says, Poke review after the Cognition acquisition: what the public information says

The job: with the strictest approval setting on, you say “Email Sam and ask for the headcount numbers by Friday.” Nothing should reach Sam until you approve, the draft should be shown in full, and the email sent should match the approved draft.

What the documentation says:

Teams

Job 24: Hand a task between two teammates

Used in: Best AI assistants for a 10-person team, from public information

The job: one person takes over a vendor renewal from a colleague. The open threads, the deadline and what is still unanswered must move across, and nothing from the first person’s other private threads should come with it.

What the documentation says:

Job 25: Run a weekly status report from team inputs

Used in: Best AI assistants for a 10-person team, from public information

The job: “Every Friday at 2pm Eastern, ask the five people on the Launch team what they finished this week and what’s blocked. Collect the answers and send me one summary at 4pm. Chase anyone who hasn’t answered by 3:30.” The summary should name who did not answer, invent no progress, and run again next week.

What the documentation says:

Jobs 23 to 25 are compared for a ten-person team in the team article.

Three things the matrix shows. First, most “Not stated” cells are silences, not gaps in the product: personal agents publish far less than the big platforms. Second, no vendor documents a promise-tracking feature (Job 10), a spreadsheet job (Job 18) or a confirmation-email-to-calendar job across time zones (Job 20) in the pages we read. Third, “Documented” means the vendor’s own page describes the job, and each cell links that page.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI assistant documents the most jobs?

OpenAssistant: 17 of the 25 jobs documented and 6 partial, per its own pages. Gemini has the next-highest documented job count: 7, with 4 partial.

What are the 25 jobs?

They cover scheduling, email, follow-ups, meeting prep, phone calls, texting, research, travel, identity, privacy and control, and team tasks. Each job below says what to look for and what each product publishes.

What does Not stated mean?

The vendor’s pages we read are silent on the job. It means the pages say nothing, not that the product cannot do it.

How do you rank assistants?

On five criteria: documented capabilities, vendor claims about quality, price, where it works and privacy and admin controls. All are read from public information.

Try OpenAssistant

The assistant with the most jobs documented is free to start. Try OpenAssistant with 1,000 credits at signup, or see the pricing for Pro and Team. For scheduling alone, Skej has processed millions of meetings.
